Discover Durham is seeking a Graphic Design Assistant to provide support to the creative team within the marketing department, including graphic design and administrative responsibilities. This position reports to the Creative Director and has an indirect reporting line to the Graphic Design Specialist and Associate Art Director.

The ideal candidate is familiar with Durham and has a four-year degree or equivalent work experience in a design environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide graphical assistance and support to the creative team and organization:

  • Create and update publications, maps, signage, layouts, advertisements, and other digital and print collateral.
  • Right-sizing graphics for campaigns, email newsletters, event promotions, and other channels.
  • Quick custom graphics for social media channels, including cover images, profile graphics, and timely imagery for posts on the Discover Durham accounts.
  • Possess a strong eye for typography, brand guidelines, and colors.
  • Regularly update print and digital publications to reflect new content, imagery, and branding for Durham and Discover Durham.
  • Potentially assist with photography and/or videography work, including editing and capturing assets.

Provide administrative support to the creative team:

  • Manage creative projects in Asana (project management software) and create and assign work orders and tasks to teammates as necessary. Ensure the division is on track to complete projects on time.
  • Maintain a new digital asset management tool (Libris) for the organization to appropriately tag and upload photography assets.
  • Order and manage inventory of design-based collateral (business cards, postcards, signs, etc.) for the organization.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, Acrobat) and advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience working with HTML/CSS/e-newsletter design.
  • High degree of organization, extremely detail-oriented, and able to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities.
  • Ability to follow projects through to completion, while keeping track of multiple tasks in multiple stages at the same time and gathering necessary materials and approvals from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking skills and the initiative to solve problems with energy and a positive attitude.
  • Photography and/or videography skills are a plus.
  • Durham residency and familiarity with Durham as a visitor destination is preferred.
