The Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB) is looking for one or several long-term relationships with professional freelance designers to produce a variety of publications and promotional materials.

A majority of work will be for print, but some projects may include digital components. Projects range from 3-panel brochures to 60-page publications; campaign promotion packages that include numerous print pieces and online banner ads around a single theme; to one-off postcards or Microsoft Office templates.

This is a freelance position with most job duties performed off-site. Candidate must provide own computer equipment, software, and reliable internet connection. We prefer professional freelancers who are available for assignment meetings during standard office hours. The ideal candidate is also familiar with Durham's character and culture. EEOC.



  • Attend assignment meetings at DCVB's offices to ask questions and receive background, files, and instructions for each project.
  • For projects estimated to involve more than 2 hours of work, create a scope of services summary that includes a cost estimate, list of deliverables, and completion schedule within 2 business days of assignment.
  • Complete assignments by deadline, within established brand standards, and to appropriate professional printing standards.
  • Package projects for final production or distribution via professional offset printing or web.
  • Provide weekly updates on status of open projects.
  • Complete billing within 2 weeks of delivering finished product.



  • Candidates must be able to submit a link to an online portfolio containing at least 5-7 examples of relevant design work as well as at least 2 client references. Applications without this information will not be considered.
  • Please be comfortable showing your work along the way. We prefer to see concepts (think sketches, wireframes, or half-finished comps) in the early stages to make sure we're on the same page. This is not optional: we firmly believe that working this way saves us both time and heartache in the long run.
  • Please be prepared to provide any native working files upon request. Final delivery of project will include all editable design files, source materials, etc. to ease future updates. Final deliverables should be in an Adobe Creative Cloud or Microsoft Office format, depending on assignment.
  • Freelancers will be asked to share files via Dropbox, and sign up for a free account with Asana.com for assignment management.
