Discover Durham is Durham's marketing agency, helping draw over 11 million leisure visitors and business travelers to this vibrant, eclectic destination last year. We're looking for an eager Marketing Coordinator to join our lively team to provide marketing and administrative support, coordinate research and reporting, and assist with other internal processes to keep our organization running smoothly. Other responsibilities may include working with partners to gather attendance information, being a point-of-contact for external vendors and working in our project management tool to make sure nothing slips through the cracks.

This job requires a strong attention to detail, the ability to self-direct and prioritize competing tasks, along with project management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. This role reports directly to the Director of Digital Marketing & Analytics. The ideal candidate for this position is familiar with Durham, has a four-year degree, and at least 1-2 years of experience in a marketing role. Any experience with B2B sales, hospitality, travel, or tourism is a plus.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Traffic tasks for the marketing team from incoming work orders, ensuring proper information has been provided and the task gets completed on time
  • Assist the Director of Digital Marketing & Analytics with managing Discover Durham's numerous research efforts
  • Create regular monthly internal metrics reports by working with both internal and external stakeholders to collect data and analytics
  • Work collaboratively across departments to manage Discover Durham's promotional items, keeping Discover Durham's inventory ready and coordinating new orders with the creative team
  • Keep the organization up to date on news articles and new local developments by sending out daily reports of news stories and media coverage
  • Update and maintain Discover Durham's website with new business openings and national media coverage
  • Oversee marketing team's awards submissions, identifying awards that align with our organizational mission and strategic areas
  • Participate in project management task force meetings, identifying opportunity areas to improve internal processes
  • Administrative duties as assigned


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in marketing, communications, or similar areas
  • 1-2 years of experience in a marketing support role, including project coordination oversight and working with creatives; agency traffic management experience a plus
  • Computer skills using Microsoft Office and cloud-based internet technologies on a PC; Adobe Creative Suite and HTML experience a plus


Preferred Qualifications:

  • B2B, tourism, travel, or hospitality experience
  • Market segmentation and/or marketing research experience
  • Durham residency and/or familiarity with Durham as a visitor destination
  • Highly-organized, extremely detail-oriented, and able to multi-task to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Oral and written communication skills
